Yannick Wilhelmi produced another impressive performance at the 2024 PSA Canadian Squash Open in Calgary before eventually being denied a semi-final place by 2nd seed Mazen Hesham of Egypt who claimed a tightly contested 11-9 11-9 11-9 victory.
The young Swiss dominated the opening exchanges of the match to secure a commanding lead of seven points in the first game, leaving Mazen Hesham momentarily unsettled.
However, Mazen Hesham, often referred to as 'the Falcon', possesses the resilience and skill to mount impressive comebacks, even in the face of daunting deficits. This resilience was evident as the No.2 seed gradually shifted the momentum in his favour, ultimately clinching the first game 11-9.
Despite Yannick Wilhelmi once again taking the lead in the second game, Mazen Hesham managed to reel him in to win the game 11-9 to secure a hard-fought two-game advantage. The Egyptian continued to press on in the third game, maintaining his momentum to secure the match with another 11-9 game win.

The young Swiss player surged to a 2-0 lead with decisive 11-3 and 11-4 game wins. Auguste Dussourd fought valiantly, despite restricted movement which was particularly evident in his challenge to respond to shots directed towards the front court.
The third game witnessed glimpses of a latent threat from Auguste Dussourd, as he unleashed precise winners early on, however Yannick Wilhelmi maintained his composure and surged ahead to a seemingly unassailable 9-5 lead. Auguste Dussourd defied expectations, summoning remarkable resilience to mount a stirring comeback, reeling off six consecutive points to snatch the third game 11-9.
Undeterred by his opponent’s resurgence, Yannick Wilhelmi showed his mental fortitude, regaining control in the fourth game which he won 11-3 to secure his berth in the quarter-finals where he will face 2nd seed Mazen Hisham.

In the opening game, Diego Elias faced a stern challenge from Todd Harrity but managed to maintain a consistent lead, ultimately clinching the first game 11-8. The top seed accelerated his momentum to secure the second game 11-3 with decisive shot play.
With his confidence soaring, the World No.3 pressed on relentlessly, asserting his superiority over Todd Harrity in the third game with impeccable control to claim the third game 11-5.

Despite facing a resilient opponent, the 33-year-old asserted his dominance, securing a 2-0 lead after two hard-fought 12-minute games, with the American staging an impressive comeback in the second game, rallying from a 4-9 deficit to clinch the game 11-9.
The World No.53 controlled the tempo of the third game, manoeuvring his opponent with a masterful performance to clinch the game 11-2 in emphatic style.

Yannick Wilhelmi asserted his dominance early on, clinching the opening game impressively 11-6.
Undeterred by his initial setback, Sanjay Jeeva launched a spirited comeback in the second game. Employing unorthodox attacking strategies, the Malaysian caught Yannick Wilhelmi off guard and managed to level the score, triumphing in a closely contested tiebreak 12-10.
